RTSAFE: BIOTECHNOLOGY & MEDICINE
Winner of MITEF Greece Startup Competition 2015
Radiation therapy (RT) for cancer patients is no more unsafe. Every RT patient can now experience his/her own quality assurance process for the first time. The treatment is first applied and tested to a precise duplicate (3D-avatar) of the selected patient treatment site and thereafter safely applied to the real patient. Using RTsafe‘s products, the doctor performs the planned treatment for the selected patient at his/her ‘avatar’ (produced by our company) in a pseudo-in-vivo patient-specific manner.
THE PROBLEM: Patient safety in radiation oncology needs to be enhanced and ensured. Modern radiotherapy (RT) makes use of complex procedures for high radiation dose delivery. This high complexity raises issues regarding patient safety. RT accidents may occur resulting often to severe patient side-effects or even death. International organizations emphasize the need for enhancing and improving patient safety in radiation oncology.
RTsafe’s SOLUTION: RTsafe has developed an innovating technology / methodology for a patient-specific quality assurance process in radiation oncology. RTsafe produces a separate product for each and every separate radiation oncology patient. The product is a precise duplicate (3D-avatar) of the selected patient where his/her radiation treatment can be first applied, checked for any potential errors and approved before the real patient treatment. The approved treatment can be then safely applied to the real patient.
