Professional experience
George Nikolaou was recently appointed as Senior Executive Director, Financial Services Innovation at the New Jersey Innovation Institute, an NJIT company.
George has an extensive background in technology-driven transformations within the financial industry as well as other sectors. Most recently, at First Data Corporation, he led the transformation of payment systems for major banks in Europe and the Middle East. In previous roles, he formulated the expansion strategy for the retail branch network of a major bank in Greece using data analytics and led the international expansion of one of the top vendors in the gaming industry. In the U.S., he established IBM’s reengineering practice in the Great Lakes area and while at Deloitte and James Martin & Co., he redesigned the underwriting systems of major insurance and reinsurance companies.
In addition, George formed his own consulting firm headquartered in New York advising clients in the establishment of electronic marketplaces. He also has served as a coach for technology startups.
In his current role, he is interested in solutions for big data, cybersecurity, frictionless payment technologies, regulatory benchmarking, blockchain applications, and new solutions to the skill-gap issues facing mature financial industry professionals. These solutions are developed through cooperation of the academic community at NJIT and other research institutions, engagement of startup companies at the NJIT Enterprise Development Center incubator/accelerator and sponsorship by financial industry firms.”
